Math

Our district has adopted the Everyday Mathematics Program which has been developed by the University of Chicago School of Mathematics Project. It emphasizes the following content strands, skills, and concepts:

Numeration
Operations and Computation
Data and Chance
Geometry
Measurement and Reference Frames
Patterns, Functions, and Algebra

At the beginning of each unit, you will receive a Family Letter containing any information you will need to support your child’s new learning. One of the routines you and your child need to establish is the use of the Homework Folder. The Home Links (math homework) will be in the folder almost every day, and it is important that it is completed and returned the following day. This is a very comprehensive program that introduces many skills. Please understand that your child will not necessarily be expected to master each new skill as it is introduced. Although some skills should be "secure" in grade 3, others are simply "developing" and will serve as an introduction to later learning. This program is designed to "spiral" and we will consistently revisit various math skills all year long.
