What's Happening Currently at Each Grade Level

Second Grade

At the beginning of the school year we'll take time to focus on the idea of "respect" and its importance in human relationships. After sharing a story in which the main character moves from being disrespectful to respectful, we discuss the idea of respect and how we can show it every day. Students then will create a picture of themself while identifying how they show respect to others.

Third Grade

Third graders will explore the idea of "respect" via the Dr. Seuss classic, "Yertle the Turtle." We'll take a look at how we show others respect and how respect is communicated to others by our thoughts and actions. Finally, third graders will create a self-portrait showing at least one way in which they show respect for themselves and others. A brief sharing with a classmate will conclude the activity.

Fourth Grade

Fourth graders begin the year filling out a personal time capsule that I will keep in my possession until the end of the year. All their responses to the time capsule sentence prompts will be confidential. At the end of the year students will again have the opportunity to complete a time capsule. Comparing their two time capsules they will realize the role "time" plays in the problem-solving process.
