The “Power of the Press” is an age old adage, but one that aptly names our campaign for a new two-color offset printing press.

The “Power of the Press” campaign speaks to our goal of keeping the printing press as a centerpiece for what students experience in Saline High School’s Graphic Communications program.

A fascinating phenomenon has occurred since our recent adoption of computer-to-plate technology. Challenging print media projects are now within reach of our students because "getting to press" is a whole lot easier. Hence, students are printing more sophisticated printing projects than ever before. And that has made for a revived enthusiasm for print media which, in recent years, had been dwindling.

Our challenge now is to acquire a printing press which can match the marvels of what our CTP system allows our students to do. We have encumbered approximately $30,000 towards the purchase of a two-color offset printing press. However, current pricing puts a two-color press at about $60,000. We have quotes from three vendors: Hamada, AB Dick and Heidelberg -- and the quotes are very competitive.

You can support our “Power of the Press” campaign in any of the following ways:

1. Offer to provide matching funds. A suggested range of funding can span $500 to $5,000.

2. Tell us about a "pre-owned" two-color press that might be within our financial means.

3. Arrange for a two-color press donation from a company in the local area.

4. Share ideas you have for how we can fund a two-color printing press purchase.
