QUALIFICATION INFORMATION
All boys interested in trying out for the Saline High School golf team should pick up an informational packet at Brookside Golf Course. THIS IS THE SAME PACKET THAT WAS PASSED OUT AT THE MEETING IN THE SPRING. If you attended the spring meeting, you have the necessary information.

Try-outs will be held at Brookside Golf Course and other neighboring courses beginning Thurday, August 11, 2005. All players MUST ATTEND the rules orientation meeting on FRIDAY Aug. 12 at 8:00 a.m. at Brookside. After the first day of qualifications, tee times will be assigned for each player. A physical examination is REQUIRED for all sports participants and MUST be completed prior to the first day of qualifications. Sports physical forms are available in the high school office and the athletic office.

Qualifications will take place from Thursday through Wednesday, August 11– 17. All players will play 18 or 36 holes each day, unless notified otherwise by one of the coaches. Prospective Varsity players (11th and 12th graders) will tee off at 7:30 a.m. at a course TBD on Thursday, August 11. A second qualification round for Varsity will be played at STONEBRIDGE Golf Course starting at 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 11, 2005. YOUNG MEN TRYING OUT FOR A VARSITY POSITION MUST CALL COACH MELCHER PRIOR TO AUGUST 1 in order to ensure adequate tee times. JV and freshmen players will tee off starting at 9 am at Brookside, beginning Friday, August 12. THERE WILL BE NO PRACTICE OR QUALIFYING ON MONDAY, AUG. 15, 2005. Qualifying will resume on Tuesday, Aug, 16 and conclude on Wednesday, Aug. 17. All prospective Varsity players are expected to remain to Brookside each day to help with the JV qualifications.

Players are expected to be in excellent physical condition and prepared to play eighteen or 36 holes each day. Knowledge of proper scoring and an understanding of the USGA rules of golf are expected. High school golfers must bring their own clubs, shoes, balls, and tees. All players must walk the course and carry their own clubs. No caddies, pull-carts, or power carts are allowed at any time for high school golf.

Players will be assessed a fee of $20 per day of qualifications. Fees may be paid daily or at a reduced rate of $75 for the week. Make checks payable to Saline Area Schools – Boys Golf. Additional fees will be charged once the team is established to cover the cost of uniforms, banquet, awards, and greens fees. These will be announced at the parent meeting, which will be held on Sunday, August 21, 2005 at 7:00 p.m at Brookside Golf Course.

ATTENTION PARENTS AND ADULTS WHO SUPPORT SALINE GOLF!!! Volunteers are needed to help with scoring during the five days of qualifications. Responsibilities include walking with a foursome and tallying strokes for all four players. Knowledge of the rules of golf is helpful, but not required. Times will vary, approximately 3-5 hours each day. If you can commit to just one day, or a couple of days, please call Coach Carol Melcher at 429-8000, ext. 2225.
