Some things you should know about the Saline Golf Program...

Saline Hornet Golf Team is a Varsity level sport. It is not a club or a weekly league. Practices are held on school days from 3 - 6 pm and Varsity level players are expected to be available for extra practices on the weekends during the season.

The boy's high school season lasts from the second week in August through the third week in October.

Qualifications are held during August and a roster of approximately 20 players is established. Prospective team members should be in good physical shape and at the top of their game to start the season. The coaching focus during the season is on the mental aspect of the game, course management, fine-tuning trouble spots, and the development of the competitive student/athlete. During the summer, all players are expected to:

The following courses are those which we will play during the season. It is to your advantage to play each course over the summer.

Qualifications for prospective Varsity players will be held at LAKE FOREST and STONEBRIDGE Golf Course on Thursday, August 11, 2005 (36 holes). Golfers interested in a Varsity position must be in grades 11 or 12 and carry a nine hole average under 43. Initial cuts will be made after the third round on Friday, August 11. Final cuts will be made on August 16. We anticipate carrying a Varsity squad of 7-9 players.

Qualifications for JV and freshmen will be held at Brookside Golf Course beginning Friday, August 11. Freshmen and sophomores should be able to consistently shoot 9-hole scores below 50 if they expect to make the team. All players must have their own equipment, including clubs, bag, shoes, balls, tees, markers, and rain gear. Players are expected to come ready to play 18 holes of golf each day and should be physically prepared to walk the course and carry their own clubs. Unless there is lightning or the course is closed due to flooding, qualification rounds will be held as scheduled. Initial cuts for JV will be made on Tuesday, August 15, and final cuts on Wednessday, August 16. The JV/Frosh squad will consist of 10-12 players.

PLEASE, if you cannot shoot a nine hole score under 50, consider working on your game through programs at Community Education and/or lessons before trying out for the team.

THERE IS A FEE FOR QUALIFICATION ROUNDS! PLAYERS MAY PAY EITHER $20 PER DAY OR $75 FOR THE WEEK FOR GREENS FEES. MAKE ALL CHECKS PAYABLE TO SALINE SCHOOLS - BOYS GOLF.

In order to earn a spot on the 2005 golf team, we will consider the following:

VARSITY RESERVE

Any 3-year player returning as a senior with a qualifying average over 41.0 may be offered a spot on the Varsity Reserve. These players will not earn a Varsity letter unless they qualify for and play in at least one 18-hole competition or two 9-hole competitions where the score they shoot counts in the team score. Juniors and seniors may not compete in JV events. Uniforms will be supplied to the Varsity Reserve player when he qualifies for a competition.

In addition, any sophomore with an overall qualifying average below 39.0 may also be placed on the Varsity Reserve squad with the same stipulations for play and earning a letter as outlined above. A sophomore may, however, compete in JV events.
