Classroom & Lab Safety Rules:

 

1)                Safety glasses must be worn in the lab areas at all times.

2)                Report all accidents (major or minor) to the instructor immediately.

3)                Locate where all safety stops are located in the lab area.

4)                Locate all eye wash stations in the lab area.

5)                Understand all chemical labels located on all bottles.

6)                Locate the Right To Know Center to inform you of different chemicals we are using in the lab.

7)                Locate and understand how to use all different types of fire extinguishers.

8)                Understand the color code for all safety signs.

9)                Do not pour any chemicals, coolants, or oils into the sink or any other drain.

10)          Locate and deposit all used rags in the proper rag container.

11)          Do not turn on a machine just to see how it works.

12)          Proper clothing must be worn at all times.

·        No long sleeve shirts

·        No opened toed shoes (Example: sandals)

·        Leather shoes or boots must be worn in lab areas

·        Do not wear gloves when operating a machine

13)          Long hair must be pulled back, or tucked into a hat.

 

14)    Do not wear any jewelry at all when operating a machine.

·        Necklaces must be tucked under or in a shirt

·        Rings, watches, and bracelets must be removed before operating a machine.

 

14)          No goofing around in lab area.

·        NO pushing, shoving, running, etc.

15)          Do not use air hoses to blow off chips from machines.

·        Use a brush or a broom.

16)          Keep your hands and objects away from moving cutting tool or moving parts.

17)          Look around you to see what other students are doing.

18)          Shields on the machines must be used at all times.

19)          Double check your set up to see if the part is secure in the holding device.

20)          Measure twice, cut once.

21)          Use the proper tool for the job.

22)          Use proper feeds and speeds for the cutter you are using.

23)          Use proper speeds and feeds for the material you are using.

24)          Use the proper cutting fluid (coolant) for different operations, and materials.

25)          If the machine is not working properly, alert the instructor immediately.

26)          Do not use a machine if it says “Out Of Order”.

27)          You must de-burr all projects before handing them in.

28)          Do not leave your machine when it is running.

29)          If you don’t know ASK ME!!! I have no problems answering questions. Actually I kind of like them.
