Child Care

Class 1

Child Care is a vocational class offered through the Consortium. It is a year long class that may be taken for one or two years. Parenting is a prerequisite. Successful students may articulate credit to WCC (up to 12 hours.)

Students participate at Pooh Corner, our licensed child care facitlity. Students must pass a criminal clearance check, have a TB test on file, and have a signed medical form stating they have the emotional disposition appropriate for working with young children.

Class 2

Parenting is a class offered to prepare students for parenting, teaching, or working with young children and parents.

Students study prenatal development, child development, and the issues involved with rearing children. Students wear an empathy belly, a devise to simulate pregnancy, and take home a computerized infant, Baby Think it Over. Students get to keep this infant for 2 nights and three days! We also visit a labor and delivery unit and have many visitors (infants, children and parents.)

Class 3

A new course is offered for next year --Needle Arts!

This class will teach students sewing by machine --you may choose to make a quilt, a pair of pajama bottoms, or anything appropriate for your level.

We will also work with traditional needle arts - knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, and cross stitch.
