Purpose of Study Skills

*Promote independence, increase self-esteem, and develop effective study habits.

*Provide students with assistance with all assigned work from the regular education classroom.

*Provide extended time for lengthy assignments and tests.

*Help students develop quality study habits to be successful in all classes.

*Promote life long learning, healthy choices, and a positive life style.

 

 

Study Skills Room Rules

 

TO RECEIVE ONE FULL CREDIT A SEMESTER:

*Students must be in the room BEFORE the bell rings.

*Students must have a comletely filled in daily planner.

*Students should bring all necessary material and texts to complete assignments.

*Students need a signed pass to come or leave the classroom.

*Students will work for the entire block. There will be NO computer games or sleeping.

*Students will be respectful to everyone in the room.

1975 -- Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology, from Stephens College, Columbia, Missouri

1978 -- Masters of Education, from University of Ohio, Cincinnati, Ohio

1994 -- Masters of Education plus 30 in Children at Risk, Marygrove College

My Educational Experience:

1975 -- Senior Project for College Graduation, Woodhaven School for Multiply Handicapped Students, Assistant teacher in a deaf, educably mentally impaired classroom.

1978 to 1979-- Permanent Substitute Special Education Teacher, Multiple and Severely Handicapped students at Fair Acres School, Cincinnati, Ohio.

1979 to 1980 --Regular Education Teacher for 3rd/4th grade classroom, bilingual private school, Caribbean School, Ponce, Puerto Rico. Reading, English, Math, Science, Social Studies.

1980 to 1981 --Regular Education Teacher for 4th/5th grade classroom, bilinual private school, Caribbean School, Ponce, Puerto Rico. Reading, English, Math, Science, Social Studies.

1981 to 1982 --Private tutor, Virginia Beach, Virginia. I wanted to take time off to raise my newborn son.

1982 to 1983 --Permanent Substitute Special Education Teacher, Willow Run District, Ypsilanti, Michigan

1983 to 1985 -- Counselor and teacher at Growth Works, Substance Abuse Treatment Center, Plymouth, Michigan

March 1985 to June 1985 Substitute Special Education Teacher, University of Michigan Adult/Child Psychiatric Hospital, Ann Arbor, Michigan
