065 British Literature
Either this class or 060 Literature and Society is required for graduation; Prerequisite 056 American Experience or 057 Honors American Experience; This class may also be taken as an elective.
Literary skills, critical thinking skills, writing skills, and public
address skills are the focus of this class. Organized around thematic
units, such as Dungeons and Dragons and Protest and Change, the course
will offer students the opportunity to read and react to the stories,
poems, essays, and plays of celebrated British authors, and will look
at British history and how it affected the development of the country's
literature. From Beowulf and the sonnets of Shakespeare to Frankenstein,
A Tale of Two Cities, and A Passage to India, the class
will help students find their own voices as readers, writers, and thinking
members of society
as they practice the skills of creative thinking, process wiritng, and
interpersonal communications.
060 Literature and Society

thematic units, such as Social Protest and Gender Politics, this course
will offer students the opportunity to read and react to stories, plays,
poems, and essays of celebrated authors whose works reflect our multicultural
world. From The Great Gatsby to Brave New World and Lord
of the Flies,
this class features a generous body of celebrated literature. While practicing
skills of creative thinking, process writing, and interpersonal communications,
students will find their own voices as readers, writers, and thinking
members of society through both individual and group work.
