Reminders:
*Today we sent home Parent/Teacher Conference Reminders. If the time scheduled no longer works, please contact us as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you at conferences. ?
*The second Toronto Payment is due January 12th. Please remember PaySchool is available if you would like to pay online. If you have any questions please contact us.
*Leadership Club at Heritage School continues. The next Heritage Leadership Club meeting will be on Tuesday, November 18th, in rooms 313-314. We will be making fleece blankets for the Mott Children’s Hospital. If you would like more information about this wonderful project or would like to donate please contact Mrs. Mierkowicz.
*Students may take AR quizzes on Fridays when we visit the Media Center. AR points are due towards the end of the 1st Trimester on Wednesday, November 19th!!
*The November Scholastic Book Clubs will come home soon! Please remember that Team D’Merkley does all Scholastic Book Orders online. The website is http://pcool.scholastic.com/parentordering/login.jsp. Our class username is team_d_merkley (including underscores) and our password is 6thgrade (all one word). The Scholastic website is also available at the Team D’Merkley website (http://sites.salineschools.com/users/dandreat/). Please do not send book orders to the classroom.
Academics:
*Mierkowicz/Hensley Math –We continue with Unit 3; Variables, Formulas, & Graphs.
*D’Andrea Math – Next week we will begin our unit on mathematical properties.
*Writing – We are working on our
second 6+1 Writing Trait of Organization.
*Grammar – We are working on our Noun Book for the Books of Hope Project.
We will start verbs next week.
*Reading – We finished our first round of book novels and are working on Inference.
We passed back reading logs today. Team D’Merkley is making a slight change to the reading log. Instead of having parents initial each day, we will have them initial once at the bottom of the page. We ask that students continue reading a minimum of 20 minutes, 5 out of 7 nights a week. Reading logs must be filled out completely (title/author/page numbers read from/minutes. Generally reading logs are turned in on Fridays. The sixth reading log is due Friday, November 14th with a minimum of 5 days read.
*Spelling – We will begin Unit 8 on Monday, November 10th. The packet is due on Thursday, November 13th, and the test will be on Friday, November 14th.
*Social Studies - We continue our unit on Latin America. Students will need their spiral notebook in class. There will be a test on Wednesday, November 19th.
*Science – We are still working in our planet groups. Next week we will be making our Planet Poster.
