Classroom Procedures

Airlines have security procedures, hospitals have admission procedures, a concession stand has purchasing procedures and our time spent together revolves around classroom procedures.
  1. Upon entering the classroom, you (student) will pickup your warm-up sheet, read the instructions on the board and proceed to complete those instructions in three (3) complete sentences. Upon completion, you will turn in your warm-up sheet to the appropriate bin. If time remains you are to work on your assigned reading. Which brings me to the next issue…
  2. Textbook and notebooks are to be brought to class every day! If failure to bring these two items to class becomes a problem, we will work this out with your parent(s) or guardian(s). Your notebooks-
  3. Notebooks: You need a three-ring binder assigned only to this class! Over the next 17 weeks, you will receive numerous handouts for notes, extra information, and anything I deem useful. You must save every scrap of paper you receive, including all notes, graded assignments, old quizzes, etc. In addition, you will be asked to take notes in various note packets. Periodically, your notebook will be checked. You will receive 10 points for a perfect notebook. Remember, a semester has 17 weeks, so you are looking at almost 100 points…

The notebook will contain the following section headings:
    I. Classroom procedures, calendar, journal entries, grade sheet
    II. Political Foundations
    III. The Constitution
    IV. 3 Branches of Government
    V. Foreign Policy (if time)
VI. State and local Government (if time)
  4. Calendars: Every two weeks you will receive a new calendar. These calendars are to be placed in the appropriate section of your Government notebook. The calendars will provide you with a rough sketch of what we will be covering.
  5. Time Magazines. I will be asking you for $5.00 for a 12 week classroom set of Time Magazine to help us keep focused on national events. Please see me if you have any questions or concerns about this.
  6. Grade Sheets: You will be provided with a grade sheet to keep track of your grade in this class. Time will be given for you to add new grades to your sheet when scored-work is returned and to tabulate your “new” grade in the class. Consequently, you should always know whether you are doing well or not!
  7. End of class: The bell does not dismiss you! I dismiss you from the class. We will all leave only when everyone is seated at their desks.
  8. Late work policy: Any work turned in after its assigned deadline may only be submitted for a maximum 50% credit on the next day. Work turned in on the 2nd late day will not be accepted.
