Reading Assignments are to be read, outlined, and students should prepare for the first day we meet, every week, with questions for the instructor! Additionally, we will ask students to analyze and type up one political/social current event, and have those prepared on the first day we meet each week.

Class Projects (20% of your grade)

You will be asked to actively participate in everything we do as a class! This includes individual and group projects, role-plays, mock trials, and discussions, etc.

The following behaviors will be expected of each student:
  • Speak often (while maintaining relevance to the subject matter) during classroom debates, discussions and simulations.
  • Pay attention to who is talking
  • Listen to others without interrupting
  • Join discussions when asked directly
  • Offer observations/opinions
  • Bring up issues for discussion
  • Tardy Policy: S.M.S. policy applies. You are expected to be on time. You must be in the room, and in your assigned seat when the final bell rings.

Homework (40% of your grade)

Current Events, Worksheets, etc. You will have a variety of in-class and out-of-class assignments throughout the course of each trimester. Each worksheet will be given a specific due date. All late assignments will receive a 10% deduction per day that it is turned in late.

Reading Comprehension (20% of your grade)

Reading Comprehension Checks will be given the first day of every week to encourage students to be prepared for the upcoming week’s material, and will generally be offered open-note to encourage note taking. The textbook will not be used during the check. All make-up RC's will be taken during office hours, not during class, on the next day the student attends school.

Tests (20% of your grade)

Tests will be given at the end of each of the three trimesters. They will assess a students understanding of the previous twelve weeks of material. No true final exam will be given.

 

Trimester Evaluation

Every trimester a letter grade will be sent out reporting progress on one or more of the following categories.

Grading Scale for Saline High School

A+ 100 B+ 87-89 C+ 77-79 D+ 67-69 E below 60
A  93-99 B  83-86 C  73-76 D  63-66
A- 90-92 B- 80-82 C- 70-72 D- 60-62

Policies/Procedures

Students will be expected to have made up all missing assignments and covered all material prior to the testing day!

It is the responsibility of the student, not the teacher nor parent to schedule a makeup meeting during the instructors posted office hours!
