2008-2009 Board of Education Biographies
Lisa Slawson, President,
was elected to her second four-year term on the Board of Education in May
2008. She serves on the Board Policy Committee. She and her husband Greg have lived in the
Saline Area School District since 1998. Mrs. Slawson received her Bachelor's degree in Public Policy
Administration and a law degree from Indiana University. She has two children, Katie, at the High
School and Sam at Heritage. She was the Woodland Meadows PTA President for two years and also
served on the school's North Central Accreditation Committee for two years. She has been
involved in Girl Scouts and is active with the Saline Summerfest Committee. She is also a graduate

Trudy Driscoll, Vice President,
was elected to her second four-year term on the Board of Education
in May 2005. She has served as President on the Policy Committee, as the representative to the
Washtenaw Association of School Boards (WASB), and as Parliamentarian. Trudy is a member of
the Planning Committee of the Saline Leadership Institute. She is employed part-time by Wolverine
Sports in Ann Arbor. A resident of Saline since 1987, Trudy and her husband, Tom, have three
children: Michael graduated from Saline in 2004 and Tulane University in 2007, Olivia is in eighth
grade, and Sean is a junior at Saline High School. Trudy's past involvement includes various
volunteer positions at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Neighborhood Senior Services, Catholic Social
Services, SAYB&S, Long Range Planning Committee, and in the schools. Her email address is

Paul Hynek, Secretary,
was elected to a four-year term on the Board of Education in May 2006. He
and his wife Gina have lived in the Saline Area School District since 1994. They have three children
attending school in the District -- Christopher, Danielle, and Joshua. Their oldest daughter, Sarah,
graduated from Saline High School in 2008. Paul graduated from the University of Michigan with a
Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Studies. He has worked in the Information Technology field since
1980 and is currently a Supervisor at American Community Mutual Insurance Company. Paul was a
member of the Long Range Planning Committee and is active with the Summerfest Committee. His

David Friese, Trustee,
was elected to the Board in May 2007. David and his wife, Diane (an
educator in the Wayne-Westland Schools), have lived in the Saline Area since 1979. Their son,
Michael, is a 2002 graduate of Saline High School and attends the University of Michigan. After a
37 ½ year teaching career in the Wayne-Westland and Cherry Hill School Districts, Friese retired in
June 2005. During his teaching career, Friese was a Learning Disabilities Consultant and a Social
Studies Teacher. He continues to be a strong proponent of public education. Early in his career, he
also coached football and track. David received a BS and two MA degrees from Eastern Michigan
University. He was active in SASA for several years as both a coach and board member. Since
retirement, Friese spends his falls volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley. His email

Chuck Lesch, Trustee
was elected to his first four-year term on the Board of Education in May
2008. He and his wife, Jean, have lived in the Saline Area School District since 1990. They have
two daughters. Amy graduated from Saline in 2007 and currently attends Hope College, and Megan,
who is a senior at Saline High School. Chuck received his Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a
Master's Degree in Science Education from the University of Iowa. He is currently a research
scientist in the Rheumatology Department at the University of Michigan. Chuck is involved with
various commissions at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Saline, the Saline Knights of Columbus, and
is a volunteer coach with the Saline girls cross-country team. His email address is

Bari Lynn Livsey, Trustee,
was originally appointed by the Board of Education to fill the seat
vacated by the resignation of Christine Arnold (August 1, 2004 -- June 30, 2005). She was elected to
a full four-year term in May 2005 and serves at the Boards Michigan Association of School Board
(MASB) representative. A graduate of Saline High School, Livsey received a finance degree from
Eastern Michigan University and works in the banking field. A resident of Saline for 36 years, she
and her husband, John, have three children, Cally, Jessica, and Grace. Her email address is

David Medley, Trustee,
was elected to his first four-year term in May 2007. He and his wife, Karen,
reside in the City of Saline. Mr. Medley has been a resident of the Saline Area School District since
1986. All three of his children, Natalia, Andrew, and Landon, are graduates of Saline High School.
Mr. Medley received his undergraduate degree and two master's degrees from Eastern Michigan
University. He retired in June 2007, after teaching 36 years in the Van Buren School System. His
