Band Festival

The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association sponsors an annual concert festival every March. They perform a prepared concert of three pieces, as well as sightread two pieces they have never seen before. All groups are rated on a scale of one to five (one being the high score). Three adjudicators evaluate the concert performance, and one adjudicator scores the sightreading. The concert adjudicators give written and taped comments on the strenghts and weaknesses of the group. The sightreading judge does a mini clinic with the group after they play. The goal of concert festival is to play at the highest potential of the group, and to learn from the judges’ comments, not to compete with other groups.
