What is Band Festival?
The Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association sponsors an annual
concert festival every March. Bands perform a prepared concert of three
pieces, as
well as sightread two pieces they have never seen before. All groups are
rated on a scale of one to five (one being the high score). Three adjudicators
evaluate the concert performance, and one adjudicator scores the sightreading.
The concert adjudicators give written and taped comments on the strengths
and weaknesses of the group. The sightreading judge does a mini clinic with
the group after they play. The goal of concert festival is to play at the
highest potential of the group, and to learn from the judges’ comments,
not to compete with other groups.
Because of some changes in how they are running Festival this year, there are some changes in dates for our March Festival. We will either perform on SATURDAY, MARCH 14th OR SATURDAY, MARCH 21st. All other dates that we asked you to reserve at the beginning of the year are no longer an option. I apologize for the Saturday dates, but there were no weekday sites offered in March. As soon as either date is finalized I will let you know! Thanks!
