Anthology of Poetry by Young Americans

This is a book of short poems written by kids ages 7 to 17 years. There are many different kinds of poems. There are sad, happy, and funny poems. One of my favorites is called Raisin. I like the part "Green, smooth, sour ovam, slowly die in the deep heat becoming raisins". there is a poem for everyone in this book!

What makes this book good is all of the funny, silly, and serious poems that kids have written for other kids enjoyment. It is fun with the different names and ages of the kids.

The Baby Uggs Are Hatching by Jack Prelutsky

This book is one of the best poetry books I've ever read. I love all the little details and the pictures. I think kids should read it because they would have fun just thinking whats next.

Almost everything makes this a good book because of how funny it is. I love the Nimpy-Numpy-Wumpity--he is very grumpity!

Falling Up by Shel Silverstein

One of the poems I read was called "Snowball". It was about a boy and he made a snowball. He wanted to keep it as a pet so he brought it inside. He made the Snowball some pajamas. Also he used a pillow for his head. Another poem I read was called "Scale". It was about a man who had a big stomach. Whenever he got on a scale to see how much weight he lost he couldn't see what it said because he only saw his stomach. Then he said, well, beter go eat more pancakes!

What makes this a good book is some of the poems are funny and silly and they are fun to read. The thing that made me read this book is that I like poetry and some of my friends said it was a good book.

The Gargoyle on the Roof by Jack Prelutsky

This book has a lot of monster poems (mostly about gargoyles). Some of the poems were funny and the pictures were awesome. I wanted to read it because it looked cool, scary, and I read it a little bit in second grade.

It was funny and cool. I like the style of the author's writing because it rhymes and he uses great adjectives!

Hoops by Robert Burleigh

This book doesn't rhyme but it flows like a song. It's about a basketball game. Robert describes a lot about basketball.

Robert Burliegh writes like the flow of a river. Stephen Johnson makes great pastel illustrations-very realistic, very nice illustrations.

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae and Linda Granfield

I read this book because it is about World War I. The author writes an extremely famous poem call, "In Flanders Field". Sadly, McCrae didn't live to see the end of the war. This book tells all about life in WWI, McCraes life, and his poem.

I liked this book because it makes you think about the many people who have died and suffered to give us the freedom we enjoy now. I think John McCrae's poem was very moving, for me at least.

Journey Through Heartsongs by Mattie J. T. Stepanek

This book is filled with wonderful poems. From dying to living, it is a story of Mattie's life turned into poems. It is the New York Times best seller and highly recommened to read.

This book is good because the style of writing is almost always positive. It is written by someone who knows he is going to die soon but he keeps such a positive atmosphere.

Kids Pick the Funniest Poems by Bruce Lansky

This book by Bruce Lansky is very funny. It has poems from being dumb to flicking food. The poems are done so funny that it will make you cry. This book is so priceless that I might just want to read it again.

The author's are so content and smooth going. They make it suitable for all ages. It does its purpose and it makes kids read instead of watching television.

The New Kid on the Block by Jack Prelutsky

The characters are funny. The author uses good words to describe different things. It tells about teddy bears, alligators, odd people, unpleasant food and lots more.

I think the book is good because it has humorous lines. It does not stay on one subject. Uses interesting words. It is also a short read.

Something Big Has Been Here by Jack Prelutsky

This book is full of fun and silly poems. There is everything in it from underwear to dinosaurs! Sometimes the poems did not make sense sentence-wise, but the assortment of silly words always made me laugh. I would recommend this book to anybody.

The funny bits of this book made it very enjoyable to read. The illustrations also were silly and made me laugh.

Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein

My favorite poem is "Peanut Butter Sandwich". It's about a king that lives for peanut butter sandwiches. His mouth gets stuck and he can't talk. Then ....opps can't tell you the ending but you can read it!

Shel Silverstein's poems are amazing. I totally recommend "Peanut Butter Sandwich".
