Abraham Lincoln by George Sullivan
Abraham Lincoln ran for President a second time. Andrew Jackson ran for his Vice-President. Abraham Lincoln had three boys: Willie, Robert and Todd. Read this book to find other surprises that are in store.
George Sullivan wants you to feel like you're Abraham Lincoln. If you read this book I assure you that you will find out something you didn't know about him - like Abraham Lincoln died on his birthday. Read it to find out what else happened.

Gladiator by Richard Watkins
This book tells everything about the ancient empire games in Rome. It tells you how they fought, why they fought, and when. It is an amazing story. I hope you soon figure out that ancient Rome is very cool!! No wonder they call it medieval times.
This book is excellent because it is not so long it is boring, but you still do have a bit to read. I think that this author is amazing.

The Ledgerbook of Thomas Blue Eagle by Thomas Blue Eagle
Blue Eagle was a Sioux Indian. When he was eight he got a horse. One day the Crow Indians came and killed lots of people. A few years later he saw a white man and he stole his horse. The white man came and stole all their buffalo this started a war. Blue Eagle was sent to Pennsylvania to learn the white man ways.
I liked this book because it was a true story and you learn what the Indians went through. Another reason I like this book is because it is in cursive. I recommend this book for all ages.

Mr. President by George Sullivan
This book is about presidents. It gives the steps to becoming a president and what makes a good one. It is just like an encyclopedia of U.S.A. presidents.
I chose this book because the title was interesting. This is a good book because it gives you a lot of information like that James Monroe was born on April 28, 1758.

Red, White, Blue and Uncle Who by Teresa Batemam
The three facts I thought were interesting were. . .
1. Benjamin Franklin wanted the turkey instead of the eagle.
2. They decided on the eagle 282 years ago.
3. Washington designed the White House.
This is an excellent book because I think kids would want a book about our nation that they can understand.

Snowbound by David Lavender
This book is about a family that wants to go to California. This story is in the 1800's so they need to go to California in a wagon. There are many hitch hickers going up with them. Some hitch hikers have wagons. Later they get stuck in a snow storm in the mountains. Out of 32 people who went only one survived. The survivor had to resort to cannibalizing the members.
I liked this book because it's based on a true story. Also because people have to cannibulize other people.

So You Want to be President? by Judith St. George
The thing that made me want to read this book was that I got to learn what each president did. I also got to learn that being president is sort of being like six years old because presidents don't have to follow any rules except the president's oath and the constitution. The president's oath is " I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States and will to the best of my ability preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States."
It was a good book because you got to see how hard it is to be president and see all the different kinds of backgrounds that have run for president.

Who was Ferdinand Magellan by Sydelle Kramer
When Ferdinand Magellan went out to sea, there were sailors who wanted to kill him. He was tough though and he made them pay. But, was he still safe, or was he still in danger? I wanted to read this book because I did not know who Ferdinand Magellan was.
What makes a good book is when the author uses descriptive words, and they make the plot very clear. They also stick to the topic.

Words That Built A Nation by Marilyn Miller
This book contains many documents about how the written word has effected history. The first document I read was about slaves. Harriet Beecher Stowe wrote Uncle Tom's Cabin because she wanted to show how terrible it was being a slave. Abigail Adams wrote letters to President John Adam about how women should have equal power to vote like men. The Mayflower Compact was an agreement that the men on the Mayflower, who were pilgrims, signed to start a government with equal power. Rachel Carsen wrote a book about DDT and how it effected wildlife. Because of her, DDT was banned and the Environmental Protection Agency was formed. The Eagle Has Landed tells about Apollo II and Neil Armstrong becoming the first human to walk on the moon. Now space shuttles go in space without man conducting experiments.
I really liked this book because it gives a lot of information obout American History.

1980's Timelines by Duden and Stewart
This book is about special events and famous people that die and much more. It takes you back in time and tells about sad, exciting, and some things you can not believe. There is a story that is about a boy that lived in a bubble and there is a sad story about hundreds of kids sick four years after a nuclear power plant disaster.
This book is a good book because the author only talks about one event in one to two paragraphs and writes only the important parts of the events.
