Community Project 2000
Community Project 2000 is a $124.5 million bond issue passed by Saline School District voters in September, 2000. The following are components included in the bond project and the status of each component. Build a New Saline High School. Completion is
scheduled for June 2004 and will open as the 9-12th grade building in
August 2004. Facts about New Saline
High School
Renovate the current High School. In the summer of 2001, we replaced the original roof, skylights, and electrical transformer, and made parking lot repairs. Planning is currently underway to design renovations needed to convert the building to a Middle School and a Senior Citizen Center in 2004-2005. Renovations will begin in 2004.
Projects already completed:
Harvest Elementary School
Construction was completed in June, 2002 and opened for grades 1-4 in August 2002.
Middle School
- Replaced gym roof
- Repaired the parking lot pavement and improved lighting
- Replaced the original boiler (43 years old)
- Installed air conditioning in the cafeteria and auditorium
- Replaced ceiling tile in the gymnasium and install a dividing curtain
- Replaced auditorium carpet and stage curtain
- Add operable walls between some classrooms to enhance team teaching
- Replaced older carpet in some classrooms
Heritage School
- Added a band room
- Upgraded playground drainage and top soil
Woodland Meadows
- Upgraded playground drainage and top soil
- Added a sidewalk to facilitate bus drop off and pick up
Pleasant Ridge
- Upgraded heating and air conditioning in some student work spaces
- New shingles on the roof
Houghton School
- Upgrades to heating and air conditioning
- Replaced windows in the front entrance and office area
- Improved parking lot drainage and lighting
Historic Union School
- Replaced the sewer drain system to the boiler
- Replaced three sets of entrance doors
Technology
Implementation of phase II of the district's technology plan will expand access to technology for students in all grade levels in all buildings. Our older buildings will have the same access to technology as the new buildings. Upgrades began in the summer of 2001 and will continue through 2004. Features include:
- Upgrade computers in the media centers and technology labs and use the current computers to provide more internet access in the classrooms.
- Add more student computers to every building.
- Provide wireless capability in every classroom to accommodate mobile lap-top labs.
- Upgrade the district file servers to provide greater management capability, security and web service.
- Provide video streaming capability in every classroom and media center.
- Provide one video conferencing station in the New High School to be shared district wide.
- Enhance video broadcasting and presentation features in all buildings for all classrooms.
